Specialty Course FAQ
What is a PADI Specialty course?
A specialty course focuses on one part of diving, such as deep diving, underwater navigation, buoyancy, fish identification or enriched air. You’ll build specific knowledge and practice the related skills with a PADI Instructor.
Do I need Advanced Open Water before taking a specialty?
Not always. Prerequisites depend on the specialty. Some are open to PADI Open Water Divers, while others require Advanced Open Water, a minimum age or previous experience. Check the individual course details before booking.
How long does a PADI Specialty course take?
It depends on the course and the number of training dives required. Some can be completed in one day, while others take several dives over two or more days. Each course page lists its own schedule.
Can I complete the theory before arriving in Roatan?
Many PADI Specialty courses offer eLearning, so you can complete the knowledge portion before your trip. Any required practical sessions and training dives are completed with your instructor in Roatan.
Do specialty courses count toward PADI Master Scuba Diver?
Yes. PADI Master Scuba Diver requires five PADI Specialty Diver certifications, PADI Rescue Diver certification and at least 50 logged dives.
