PADI Discover Scuba Diving
Age 10+
What is PADI Discover Scuba Diving?
No certification. No experience. No problem. Discover Scuba Diving is a single-day introduction to breathing underwater, designed for anyone who’s ever been curious about what’s down there. You’ll learn the basics, get comfortable in the water, and your first dive on Roatan’s reef, all with a PADI instructor right beside you. No commitment required, though fair warning: most people come back for more.
How the Course Works: Everything on-site, no pre-reading required. Start with a briefing and skills session in Half Moon Bay across from the shop. Once you’re comfortable, you’re on the boat. One dive on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, depth limited to 12 meters / 40 feet. Half a day, start to finish.
What You'll Do

Discover Scuba FAQ
Do I need experience to take Discover Scuba Diving?
No. No certification, no prior training, no swimming test. If you’re 10 or older and comfortable in the water, you’re good to go.
What's included in the DSD price?
Everything. Equipment rental, instruction, your confined water skills session, and the reef dive. The Roatan Marine Park fee is a separate $10, paid at the shop.
Can the DSD experience credit towards Open Water?
Yes. It credits toward the first section of the PADI Open Water course. Ask your instructor after the dive and we can usually get you started the following morning.
How deep will I dive?
12 metres / 40 feet. There’s plenty to see at that depth. You don’t need to go deeper on your first dive.
What's Learning to Dive in Roatan Like?
Most people who try a Discover Scuba experience with us haven’t been in the open ocean before. Roatan’s calm, warm waters with excellent visibility and close reef proximity is perfect for a first reef dive. Many DSD students ask about becoming Open Water certified before they are even back on our dock.
What Comes After Discover Scuba Diving?
One dive might be all you wanted. Or it might be the start of something bigger. Come back for another Discover Scuba, or continue into PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water, with qualifying training credited when PADI requirements are met.

I had an incredible first Scuba experience with Coconut Tree. If your new to Scuba, try the DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) program, it’s the best way to get educated and out on a real dive in a short amount of time!
