Your PADI Instructor certification.
The PADI Instructor Development Course is a two-week programme that takes certified Divemasters to PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. It covers teaching methodology, dive theory, confined and open water training presentations, and Emergency First Response Instructor certification. You leave with the credentials to teach scuba diving anywhere in the world.
Our IDC runs at PADI 5 Star IDC Centre #18092 in Half Moon Bay, West End, Roatan, Honduras. It's led by William Welbourn, a multiple Platinum PADI Course Director Award recipient. That award goes to the top tier of Course Director performance globally. Will has trained 485 PADI Instructors from this dock. The track record is there if you want to look it up.
The Mesoamerican Reef is your training environment. There's no better classroom in the Caribbean.
The GO Pro Caribbean website has information on PADI professional development opportunities across the region. We're one of the most experienced IDC facilities in the Caribbean.
What the Two Weeks Cover
Teaching skills. Theory. Water time.
The IDC is front-loaded: most workshops happen in week one, leaving week two focused on your teaching presentations. You'll know where you stand before the PADI Instructor Examination.
eLearning — 15 Chapters
Dive theory, PADI standards, risk management, teaching methodology, confined and open water training, continuing education, and the business of diving. All self-paced before the course begins.
Workshops
Interactive sessions in the classroom, confined water, and on actual dive sites. Most are completed in week one so week two stays focused on what the examiner will assess.
Teaching Presentations
Micro-teaching across knowledge development, confined water (dry and wet), and open water (dry and wet), delivered to Will and your fellow candidates. This is where the IDC sharpens you.
Water Skills and Rescue
400m untimed swim, 10-minute tread, Exercise 7 demonstrations to exam standard, CESA setup and delivery, and three supervised descent methods. You'll know these cold before the IE.
EFRI Certification
Emergency First Response Instructor certification is embedded in the IDC. Primary Care, Secondary Care, and Care for Children. You leave as an EFR Instructor alongside your PADI credential.
Theory and Standards Exams
Five dive theory papers and PADI standards assessments. We run practice exams throughout the two weeks so the format is familiar well before the Instructor Examination.
Your Course Director
Will Welbourn, PADI Platinum Course Director
The PADI Platinum Course Director Award goes to a small group of Course Directors recognised for consistently exceptional IDC outcomes. Will has earned it multiple times. He's trained 485 instructors from this centre, and the pass rate holds.
You're not just completing an IDC in a nice location. You're training with one of the most experienced Course Directors in the Caribbean, at a centre that has been running IDCs in Half Moon Bay for over 19 years.
Will manages the programme personally. Your presentations are evaluated by him, your theory prep is guided by him, and when you sit the PADI Instructor Examination, you'll have the preparation to back it up.
IDC courses run throughout the year. Get in touch to ask about upcoming dates and to confirm your prerequisites are in order before you book travel. Contact us here.
