Divemaster, then Instructor
The route to PADI Instructor runs through Divemaster. You can do both here at our dive center in West End, Roatan.
1. Rescue and EFR
The recreational prerequisites. Rescue Diver $400, EFR $145. We run both here if you need them.
2. Divemaster Internship
Six weeks in the live operation, from $800 if you’re already Rescue certified. 40 dives to start.
3. Instructor Development
14+ days with Course Director William Welbourn. 60 logged dives to begin.
4. Instructor Examination
The separate PADI evaluation, held here on Roatan. 100 logged dives required to attend.

- Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver required

- PADI Divemaster or qualifying leadership rating
- Certified diver for at least six months

Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver, current CPR and first aid from the past 24 months, and a physician-signed medical. Forty logged dives to begin. If you’re short, we’ll get you diving to make it up.

PADI Divemaster or a qualifying leadership rating, 60 logged dives, six months as a certified diver, current CPR and first aid, and a physician-signed medical. You need 100 dives to attend the Instructor Examination.

No. Completing the IDC makes you eligible for the PADI Instructor Examination. You earn the Open Water Scuba Instructor rating after meeting all requirements and passing the IE.

We can’t promise a job. What we can say is that a lot of the instructors working this island trained here, and the shop is a reference people take seriously.
What's going pro like in Roatan?
Four certified dive tours a day leave this dock, plus night dives on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That’s the repetition you need, with changing sites and different guests every day.
When a north swell pushes into West End between October and January we move the boats around to Flowers Bay on the south shore. Seven minutes by road, and its own lesson in how a dive operation runs.

. It was clear from the very beginning that we had made the right choice of dive shops to further our development as scuba divers. What also struck me was the rapport that the owners and Instructors have with the customers, greeting them on a first name basis as friends would. There is definitely a feeling of camaraderie that pervades the entire shop, and I truly believe that the customers can sense that, just as certainly as we sensed it. But make no mistake, this is not just a friendly shop. It is also a shop that has extremely high standards in safety, education/training and environmental issues. This is due in large part to the staff of Instructors that the owners have assembled. In my time at the shop I have witnessed first hand the Instructors’ adherence to safety first practices, whether it be the guidance and suggestions they offer their customers, or whether it was through their teaching us as Divemaster trainees. The result is that I firmly believe this shop was the right choice for me, and a sound and safe choice for the diving public of every level of experience. The fact that they are able to maintain a fun light hearted atmosphere is simply an added bonus.
